“Mom, teach me not to be afraid.”
Those were the words her five-year-old son said to her one evening, through tears.
When Alexandra asked him what he was afraid of, he whispered:
“That you will die, and I won’t have a mom.”
Alexandra Novak (Sasha), 37, is married and the mother of two children — an eight-year-old son and a three-month-old baby girl. She is battling a rare and aggressive brain tumor (meningioma).
The tumor cannot be fully removed. A partial surgery and radiation treatments have already been performed, but at this stage, further surgery is not possible, and radiation can no longer continue.
During a high-risk pregnancy, the tumor grew at an abnormal rate. Since then, Alexandra’s functional condition has deteriorated. Doctors have determined that standard treatment protocols are ineffective in her case, and that immediate, non-conventional treatment is required — treatment that is not included in Israel’s national health basket.
So far, Alexandra has already paid over ₪30,000 out of pocket for medical tests and related expenses. Several treatment options now stand before her — including Lutetium-177 therapy, advanced biological treatment, and proton therapy in Austria — all privately funded and far beyond her family’s financial means.
For nearly 18 years, Alexandra served the country in the Israeli Prison Service, driven by a deep sense of mission and commitment.
Today, for the first time in her life, the battle is for her own life.
“I am not giving up,” she writes.
“But I cannot do this alone…
Before it’s too late.
Before I’m no longer there as a mother.”
Haverim L’Refuah has opened a dedicated fund to help finance the life-saving treatments and critical medical tests Alexandra urgently needs.
Every donation — large or small — is a real step in this fight.
Even sharing this campaign can help save her life.
Together, we can help Alexandra stay.
And help her children learn not to be afraid.
