A Shekel That Saves a Life

Case Description:

Thousands of patients in Israel stand helpless at the pharmacy counter.
They don’t need you to buy the medicine for them — the state has already provides that.
They only need the small “key” that unlocks the door.

Join the Shekel That Saves a Life Fund and remove the very last barrier.

It sounds like magic, but it’s the reality of Israel’s health basket.
Many medications for serious illnesses (cancer, Crohn’s disease, heart conditions) cost tens of thousands of shekels every month. The state funds most of the cost — but requires the patient to pay a monthly co-payment of ₪350.

For a patient living on a stipend, ₪350  is the difference between food for their children and the medication that keeps them alive.

Haverim L’Refuah has been working for over two decades as Israel’s leading organization for making life-saving medications accessible.

Every patient undergoes a professional eligibility committee review and a social worker assessment.
The money never passes through private hands — the check is issued directly to the patient’s health maintenance organization ('kupat holim').

Patient testimony:

“I reached a point where I asked my doctor if I could take half a pill so it would last two months. Thanks to you, I take a full pill — and I’m back to watching my grandchildren grow.”
