There are moments when reality surpasses the most painful imagination.
We are reaching out to share the story of a brother and sister born into a devastating family tragedy. For them, Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2) is not just a line in a medical file; it is the cruel fate that claimed their father’s life and left them in a daily struggle for their own survival.
The Brother has been the most severely afflicted: After undergoing a series of complex brain surgeries and the removal of tumors along his spinal cord, he is now confined to a wheelchair, dependent on a ventilator via a tracheostomy, and has lost both his hearing and the sight in one eye.
His Sister fights alongside him, her own body a battlefield of tumors in the brain and spinal cord. For her, the distance between independence and total paralysis is measured by a dose of medication. We have witnessed the chilling reality where stopping her treatment for just a few days caused her to lose the ability to walk and suffer from severe weakness. It was only by securing targeted biological therapy that she was able to stand on her feet and function once again.
Throughout the past year, we have had the privilege of supporting this brother and sister closely, assisting them in obtaining the expensive, life-saving medications that keep them alive and functioning.
The cost of the drug Brigatinib for one patient is approximately 12,000 NIS (USD $4,000) per month.
Cases like these, representing the most extreme medical conditions, reach the doorstep of our Expensive Medication Program.
With your generous donation, we can continue to maintain this vital program for patients in these critical situations and others like them, providing them with the lifeline they so desperately need.
