Case Description:

Imagine that at the age of 11, right at the beginning of your adult life, the doctors tell you that you have been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis Lung Disease (COPD), a disease that affects the function of the lungs, your ability to breath, limits the oxygen supply to your body and that without a lung transplant it could lead to death. Imagine that despite the hard news, you choose to concentrate on life and continue living and leading a “normal” life, as normal as a life without the ability to breathe properly can be. You go to work every day, struggle to make a living and provide for yourself despite your disease and try to enjoy the small things you can do that bring you joy. The years go by, you grow older, and your body starts failing you. Breathing is the hardest thing you try to do; it takes every ounce of your power to do so. You need to start using outside help and devices to literally “catch your breath”. Every little mundane daily task- taking a shower, going to the grocery store, climbing us even one stair, even sleeping leaves you desperate for air. Just Imagine... and I wish I could only imagine and not have to deal with it every minute of my life... I am Carmit, 51 years old, I have been dealing with this disease for 40 years. In the last year, there was a significant deterioration in my condition, my lung function dropped to 24%, and the only option left for me to continue living is a lung transplant. In Israel there are very few donations and the waiting time is very long, a period of time that I don't have. It was decided, on the doctor's recommendation, to apply for a transplant at a hospital in San Diego, USA. This is a process that takes about a year, including the waiting time for the transplant, the time of recovery, rehabilitation and healing until I can return home safely. In addition to all medical expenses, many additional expenses are required, costs reach approximately NIS 250,000 Unfortunately, I lack a large amount of money to finance this complex and life saving journey, with all its consequences and demands. Despite the great fear involved in this trip, I decided to overcome everything to fight for my life! I am turning to you with a personal request for assistance and donation. Any amount, even the smallest one, will be received with love and gratitude beyond words, and will push me closer to being able to fulfill my dream, the “simple” dream to be able to take a good long breath without pain, after all this time.
