Medicine or food? This is a question no one should be asking
It's just not fair that there are people who suffer from chronic diseases all their lives. And even worse: they are also forced to choose between medicine and food every month.
They do not choose between resorts for a summer vacation, or between the types of smartphone to buy, nor between restaurants to take the family.
They are debating whether to buy food for a meal or medicine.
Some choose medicine and remain hungry, while most choose a meal and risk worsening their disease and deterioration in their condition, which can cause irreversible damage and be life-threatening. In too many cases these are also children for whom the medicine is vital, because while their body is fighting the disease it also must continue to grow and develop.
Some of the medicines are covered by insurance, but the cost of the deductible may reach thousands of shekels a month. The majory are simply not covered.
We believe that the right to medicine is the basic right that everyone deserves and we promote the accessibility of medicines through judicial courts and dialogue with regulatory bodies, with the hope that one day the question of "medicine or food?" will pass away from the world.
