Haverim L'Refuah's Legal Aid department is dedicated to making medicines accessible to those in need. Hundreds of patients in Israel find themselves in a tangle of bureaucracy and unable to obtain the medicine that can save and improve their lives. Exactly at the critical point of their lives when they have anyone to help them, and they lack the mental strength to take care of themselves - they have already had to pay for their health.
The Legal Department's team of volunteer attorneys take cases under their wing, accompanying cases until the Health Maintenance Organizations' (HMOs) Exception Committees and the courts approve the long-awaited medicine.
The assistance is provided on a completely voluntary basis and without compensation.
